SSL VPN Security

Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) VPN is an emerging technology that provides remote-access VPN capability, using the SSL function that is already built into a modern web browser. SSL VPN allows users from any Internet-enabled location to launch a web browser to establish remote-access VPN connections, thus promising productivity enhancements and improved availability, as well as further IT cost reduction for VPN client software and support.

SSL VPN Security.

While providing significant business benefits and cost savings, VPN technologies (SSL VPN included) come with their own security issues. These SSL VPN security issues must be dealt with appropriately to ensure the confidentiality and integrity of data and information, as well as overall corporate network security.

SSL VPN security falls into three categories:

Authentication and Authorization: Users gain access to valuable information and systems through the SSL VPN. Because of this, it is critical to ensure that only authorized users access resources through the SSL VPN and that individual users access only those resources that they are supposed to access.

Endpoint Security: Endpoint security ,sometimes known as Client-Side Security, refers to technology implemented to prevent any security-related problems occurring on devices used to access resources via the SSL VPN.

It is important to realize that as opposed to earlier remote-access technologies, SSL VPN technology allows access from machines not known to be secure and as such, the endpoint concerns are different from the endpoint issues present in older remote-access scenarios.

Server-Side Security: Server-Side SSL VPN security, sometimes known as Network Security, refers to protecting internal corporate resources including the SSL VPN server itself from falling victim to any form of compromise.
